About This Forum

Welcome to Steampunk-War of Worlds, a roleplaying forum +
not just for roleplayers but also for the current insurgence in Steampunk themed outings (nightclubs etc), so even if you're not a roleplayer you can develop a character/persona and make costuming in theme of this group.

New to the concept of "Steampunk" and want to learn more?

Not familiar with roleplaying click HERE.

Both the above are wiki links, you can find a lot more info. on both by doing some google searches yourself and having a read :)

The Setting:
The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells was not fiction to this setting, after the failure of the Martians to conquer humanity we have struck back. Using technology stolen from what the Martians left behind on Earth. The British Empire has grown stronger with it's Aethership armada.

The war with Mars continues...

Welcome to the Victorian Era that could have been.

RULES for Storyboard:

1. Most threads require permission to write in, they will each have a corresponding place to do so in the Permission thread. Breaching this will mean one warning, breaching it more then once will result in account deletion.

2. Make sure make a thread in the Permission thread if you open a storyline in any of the storyline boards.

More to come as needed...

RULES for In Character Area:

Quick Note:
IC = In Character
OoC = Out of Character.
GM = Game Master (who mainly will do this from the NPC Control account)
ICE = In Character Environment

1. Don't God Mode: this includes all speaking on the behalf of another player. This roleplaying forum is freeform to a large degree (meaning completely statistics/system free), if you are unsure whether or not your character is capable of doing something either ask in the Q&A thread or PM a moderator (NPC control is the best option for this).

2. No OoC drama: if you have a problem with another member, take it elsewhere (possibly sort it out in an OoC thread of your own creation). If you really can't resolve problems with another player PM a moderator and ask for mediation.

3. Keep OoC comments to a minimum in IC threads/posts, and IC comments completely out of OoC. Remember to mark OoC comments as "OoC:" in IC threads.

4. Do not post IC until your character has been approved/accepted by the GM (or any moderator for that matter). Breaking this one will get your membership from this forum deleted, no questions asked.

5. Do not use characters from any movie, book, comic etc. This is an original rpg, not a fan rpg. Not that I have anything against fan rpgs: I play in (and run) a few myself.

6. When you character moves to another thread while remaining active simply place continued in "name of thread" and continued from "name of thread" in the one you are leaving and the first post in the new thread.

7. IC - write in third person, unless actually speaking IC: then place it in "these".

8. Keep it 13+, you don't know the age of other players and you shouldn't have to.
To clarify: by this I mean try not to type anything that a person that someone 13 could not legally see at the cinema. This does vary from country to country but most English speaking people should have a fair idea what I mean by this.

9. Don't leave other players hanging: if you can't make it back to play your character, write yourself out (or at least ask the persons you are interacting with if they mind pausing).

10. IC post at least 3 sentences. Suggestions: Describe how your character is feeling and/or the environment (what your character sees). Think of this as writing a story cooperatively as much as it is roleplaying.

11. IC - always aim to give too much description rather than not enough, try to spell correctly (use a spell checker if you have to), and write in full sentences.

12. Don't be in two or more places at a time, in other words, don't play in more than one thread at a time. Finish in one IC thread before posting in another.

13. Once your character has been approved DO NOT EDIT IT, WITHOUT APPROVAL FROM A MODERATOR!. This will be considered cheating and will get your membership deleted. If you wish to add to your character simply write a new post in the Character Applications: thread and wait for it to be approved before using this new information IC.

14. Once you have begun roleplaying here try to post at least once every two weeks or it will be assumed you are not really interested in being a part of
Steampunk-War of Worlds.
Once you have begun roleplaying failure to come back and post for more then a month will get your character turned into an NPC (Non-Player Character). If you are going to be absent for longer than this for any reason please simply open a post (in the General section, call it "Leave of absence") letting us know and we will lift this rule for you.

15. No "speed posting": allow others to respond before posting again yourself. If you forgot something important, simply edit your post and add it. This isn't a good idea if anyone has responded, as it will probably be overlooked and mess up the flow of play.

16. Avatars, Signatures and Personal Text must be character specific. In the case of Avatars you can select from the ones I've created or you may have a character pic as your Avatar (Character pics must be photos of YOU only). These will be modified for you if you do not comply.

17. Members may only post three times per day in IC threads.

18. You don't have to roleplay to take part in the OoC threads, I'm not going to care either way, the intention of this forum is to promote Steampunk in general as much as it is to promote roleplaying.

Fine print: These rules may be subject to change and amendment without notice!

Living in the Victorian Era

General info. can be found HERE.

The British Empire has declared martial law within it's provences, all the technological advances gained from reverse engineering of what the Martians left behind has gone into building the Aethership Amarda.
Many fear that the Martians will return in greater force and are calling for a counter strike on Mars itself.
Will the simple threat of impending doom be worse then the invasion itself, as mankind turns to using this new found technology on each other?
While the Martians plot secretly across space.

More info. coming SOON!

The Aethership Armada

Their are 5 Titan class Aetherships currently in service (with more in production).

Their ranks (and their insignia) of the Aethership Armada are:

(These are actually borrowed from the 2004 TV Series Battlestar Galactica, because they're cool and it makes costuming easier as they can be easiler purchased online, ebay being one of the easiest sorces)

The Titan class Aetherships

Each Titan class Aethership carries:
Attack class Aetherships- 3 Wings of 5 Squadrons, a Squadron is 5 Attack class Aetherships. Attack class Aetherships are smaller single man ships.
Tanks- 2 Battalions of 5 Regiments, a Regiment is made up of 5 Tanks each maned be 3 men.
Infantry- 5 Battalions of 3 Companies of 1000 soldiers each.

The most well known being the HMS Cerebus which is generally in orbit around the Earth.

More info. coming SOON!

Technology

Weapons (Firearms)

Standard Infantry Weapons:

Issued to all commissioned officers of the HMS Cerebus, the ATV-2 (Alien Technology, Variable -2).
Has two firing settings, stun and disintegrate.
(This is actually a Phaser from the new "Star Trek" movie)

The Maverick, one of the most popular sidearms, easily modifed and incredibly reliable.

The HPC (Heavy Personnel Cannon), used for boarding, dealing with small troop gatherings or small vessels.
Uses explosive rounds much like hand grenades.

The ATV-1 (Alien Technology, Variable -1)
Diagram A. shown closed in 'safe' position.
Diagram B. shown open ready for firing.
Has two firing settings, stun and disintegrate. The ATV-1 has been decommissioned (mainly due to the temperamental nature of this weapon, it has been known to cause a lot more damage then intended or expected for such a small almost hand concealable weapon) but some officers still carry them.
(This is actually a Laser Screwdriver, from the "Doctor Who" TV series)

Advanced Infantry:
The Advanced Infantry have the option of all of the above weapons plus the following.

The Vulcan Full automatic cannon, standard belt feed: 25 rounds of high explosives.

The Lightning Lance, a sword like weapon with an invisible heat ray blade.
Still in the experimental stage but already being issued to selected Platoons.

Many prototype versions of the Lightning Lance ended up in the personal use of the members of the Aethership Armada such as the above Thermic Lance with Shield Box.

Aethership Pilot Gear

Pilots generally wear simple leather pilots caps and goggles but the recent innovation of the above helmets mean that the pilot is safe even in the vacuum of space for a limited time.

More info. coming soon.

The Martians:

While little is known of Martain culture or social interactions much is on record from study of their cadavers (most of this information is not openly available to the general public).

The Tripods (as their general attack craft are known) mimic the Martians in appearance. They have three main appendages and numerous lesser tenticle like appendages (consistantly between 2 and 6).

The Tripods.

From the Tripods themselves much has been learned of their technology, such as power systems and weaponary systems.

More info. coming soon
